Life in the Fast Lane

Life in the Fast Lane -
I just recently moved from small town MN to the big city. I am a student at FIT loving the fact that everyday I am learning something new, and expanding my knowledge when it comes to the industry. As an aspiring PR girl I am determined to gain as much experience as I can. Living in one of the fashion capitols of the world I am truly inspired by anyone and everyone I see. I have never met so many creative, free-willed, and ambitious people. Everything about this environment is so motivating to me, and just proves there is no doubts when it comes to my dreams. Starting my journey in NYC is a dream come true, and I want to share my experiences with everyone. You'll have to bare with me when it comes to my pictures, the iPhone is all I have until my birthday (fingers crossed a new camera is coming soon).

On the Runway

Givenchy RTW Spring 2013
"Sixties Parisian Couture"

This past Monday at Paris Fashion Week Riccardo Tisci, creative director of Givenchy, previewed his spring ready to wear with blacks, whites, and a little powder blue. Collars were a main focus during his show, whether they were part of the garment or portrayed with thick medal chokers. He incorporated many ruffles into his collection, and as said by WWD, they "repurposed for Tisci's gothic glamour."

According to Style.com the collection was based off of his Catholic Heritage with his version of priest collars, bishop sleeves (on striking black jackets), and church vestments (skirts worn with crisp blazers and pants).

Pant suites are being seen all over the runway. Tisci's version of the bomber jacket reconstructed into a blouson in biased cut lace is one of my favorite pieces, along with shirt vest. I find the pants to be a sophisticated edge to the collection, but Tisci is still able incorporate Givenchy's initial elegance.

DVF Spring 2013
"With the polish of a princess and the heart of a gypsy, she is an aristocratic dreamer…"

It was a happy morning when Amy Stone texted me these pictures of DVF Spring 2013 collection. Diane von Furstenberg never fails to bring us the most beautiful designs from the perfect bright colors, unique bold prints, and the ever so popular embellishments. Some of my favorites in her collection are the layering of dresses over pants, the (gold) belted trousers, and the matching pant suite!

The creator of the ever so flattering wrap dress continues to focus on capturing the true beauty of a women with the colors, cut, and style of her pieces.

Notice the glasses on some of the models pictured? DVF collaborated with Google's Chief Executive Sergey Brin, who introduces to us a small half screen worn across the face known as "Glass." At the tap of the temple this device becomes a computer that can film. They were worn in the DVF show by the models, makeup artists, a few of the audience members, Diane herself, and a couple other designers. These devices were then used to create "DVF Through Glass" which was previewed this past Thursday on YouTube. Brin states in the WWD article about working with the fashion industry, "It's a very important component of making technology desirable and compelling." Talk about smart advertising by both partners!!
